WINTER WEATHER UPDATE FROM UIS NWS LAKE CHARLES 1.23.25
Good morning all,
Temperatures this morning are some 20 degrees warmer than those seen across parts of the area yesterday. Even so, we’re starting the day in the low to mid 20s. The good news is that temperatures will climb above freezing by around 10 AM and remain that way through shortly after sunset this evening. This will allow nearly all remaining black ice and/or snow to melt off of area roadways. Additionally, this will result in significant melting of snow on grassy areas. A few, deeper areas of shaded snow may survive the day, but the vast majority should be gone by this evening.
Temperatures will drop into the mid 20s again tonight into Friday morning. Any liquid water on roadways from melting snow will freeze, but this will likely be minimal. A lighter freeze is expected Friday night into Saturday morning and that should be the last night of freezing temperatures for this event. We then return to our regularly scheduled winter.
