UPDATE FROM US NWS LAKE CHARLES SLACK CHANNEL 10.23.26

An area of Extreme Drought (D3) has developed across interior southwest and central Louisiana and parts of southeast Texas,

per this week’s update from the U.S. Drought Monitor. Most of the remainder of our area remains in Severe (D2) or Moderate (D1) drought.

With no rainfall forecast for at least the next week, drought conditions will persist, but long-range outlooks do suggest greater chances of

above-normal precipitation in the coming months.

NWS – Lake Charles – Marti Calhoun  [8:32 PM]

Fire Danger has been issued once again for Friday afternoon.
Good morning Partners. Very strong high pressure centered along the Eastern Seaboard is exerting strong ridging
across the TX / LA Gulf Coast. There has been no change in the forecast regarding the high pressure ridge and dry
forecast ahead. Pressure gradient does tighten a little bit into Saturday through Monday which may allow some
wind gusts 10-15 mph to become more frequent during the daylight hours, especially toward the coast. Generally
speaking, however, sustain winds should trend light, variable, and often at or below 8 mph. There are some signals
in the guidance that this pattern could start to break down toward the 31st. However, apart from seeing a
broadening / weakening in the surface pressure, no opportunities for any, let alone meaningful, rainfall are in
sight for the published forecast.
